Richard Aylmer Award
Nordic Award

This award created in 2025 is to recognise and support British individual nordic skiers with potential to represent GB at the highest level. They will also have shown great determination and commitment in their competitive careers.
It draws its inspiration from the achievements of Richard Aylmer who represented GB in the 1956 Winter Olympics.
During these Olympics at Cortina d’Ampezzo, when competing in the 50kms cross-country race, misfortune struck and he broke a ski after 5kms. He was eventually given another by his Norwegian coach, who happened to be positioned on a difficult part of the ‘downhill’ stretch. He won the admiration of the crowd as he was determined to complete the course despite coming 30th (last) in 4 hours 11mins 40 sec.
