Kirsteen McGibbon Memorial Fund

This Fund was initially established with a major donation from Kirsten McGibbon’s parents, William and Lorna in memory of their daughter. Its purpose is to provide financial support to young female amateur skiers who show promise and potential to become international ski racing competitors.

Kirsteen was a highly talented member of the British Alpine Ski Team who tragically died as a result of a high-speed training accident at Altenmarkt, Austria whilst in training to compete in the 1996 Winter Olympics.

Nominations for the award each year are currently made by Jo Pilarska who herself represented Great Britain internationally in slalom and giant slalom. The focus of nominations is providing financial support to a female ski racer who shows exceptional commitment to pursuing their sport and who is not necessarily highly recognised with other awards.

Recipients over recent years have gone on to establish themselves in the GB Snowsports Alpine FIS squad.
